Epic Dry Creek Project

This year my husband and I finished an epic project that has been in the works for more than 10 years.  The project was to build a dry creek across our property.  The creek, which is over 500 feet long, starts at a high spot at the front of our property and follows the natural flow of water as it weaves around to a low spot at back.  

In the front, the creek uses flat New Mexico river rock.   

In the back, the creek is constructed from bull rock, gravel, and select river stones.

The primary purpose of the creek is to facilitate drainage by preventing water from slowing down and pooling at inconvenient places along the way.  The final segment of the creek was completed this summer.  

Our goal is for the creek to blend naturally into the landscape surrounded by native plants and trees.  Nature gave us a  good head start, but it will still be many years before our work is complete.  In the picture below, a glimpse of the creek can be seen curving in from the far left.

Since completing the project, there has not been enough rain fall to test the creek until today.  So what's the verdict?  With the exception of some leaf debris, which needed to be cleared, the creek works great.  

So now, we're singing, just singing in the rain... la da da da da da... la da da da da da.
